Vison, February 2010-A visit to Erin Adams studio
Visions "Designing Lifestyle Interiors with a Vision" February 2010
| |
Dear Reader,
Old man winter has certainly settled into Charlotte, NC much to my dismay. I am simply not fond of the cold.
During these frigid cold days of winter, I invite you to sit back, have a cup of hot tea and enjoy this February issue of Visions. In this issue you will get an inside view of the Erin Adams studio, a creator of glass mosaic tiles whose collection is featured by ANN SACKS. Read about "The softer side of Modern" and what that means in home decor. Also, pairing red with turquoise, learn how to combine red with turquoise to achieve a stunning look. Lastly, the latest news affecting remodels from the EPA
Please feel free to call me a 704-362-1397 or contact me at rosa@rosadestinteriors.com with any questions or comments.
Enjoy!

Erin Adams Studio

I recently took a trip to Albuquerque, NM to visit my sister Andrea, who lives in New Mexico with her family. I had the opportunity to stop by Erin Adams Studios. For those of you not familiar with Erin Adams, she is the first designer to use stained glass in the mosaic form. Her work has been featured in Traditional Home Magazine, Elle Decor, Interior Design and many others.

Erin, as a design innovator has the capability to see flexible, textile like properties in every piece of material. She creates bold glass, aluminum and ceramic mosaics for use in commercial and residential walls and floor coverings. The complex mosaic patterns of hand-cut and fitted glass stand out for their beauty and craftsmanship. As an innovative designer, she is interested in the environment and uses material such as products from completely recycled aluminum as well as glass products that have a high recycled content.

The process of creating the tile mosaics is fascinating. It is amazing to see how these products are manufactured to form the beautiful mosaics that we as designers can use to create spectacular spaces.

One of Erin Adams strongest initiatives is her relationship with Southwest Creations Collaborative (SCC), a local design and manufacturing business whose social mission is to end poverty and create intergenerational wealth. My sister was the program director at SCC until recently, and it was because of her relationship with Erin Adams that she insisted on sharing both SCC and Erin Adams studio with me. To learn more about SCC visit them at www.southwestcreations.com .
Locally you can see some of Erin Adams creations at Walker Zanger. She has developed an exquisite collection of artisan crafted glass mosaics for ANN SACKS. The collections creative patterns, breathtaking palette, and skillfully executed fabrication is one of their most important and successful programs. The Softer Side of Modern
One of the hottest trends this year is using materials that are old and making them feel modern. Whether its using unfussy linens to upholster straight-line custom sofas and chairs or pairing modern pieces with rustic ones.

Featured by "The Gustavian Room", the Scandinavian antiques and reproductionsare becoming more popular. With their light bluish-grey finish they infuse freshness into the home decor while maintaining the clean look of Modern. Linen and linen blends are the fabric of choice for their upholstery
Bringing life to antiques and flea-market finds is another way that we are seeing a softer side to the modern look. By reupholstering furniture with updated fabrics, giving a fresh coat of paint to an old piece, or placing an architectural antique in a contemporary room. Achieving a complementing balance is the key to making the look successful.
Simplicity and comfort is the name of the game. People want to come home to fresh, crisp and most of all to comfortable and beautiful surroundings. |
Turquoise and Red
The color of the year for 2010 is Turquoise. Used alone in a small room it can be quite stunning but paired with other colors it can make a beautiful statement. For example, let's take turquoise and red, since red is the color this month, (Valentines Day).

This serene dining room featured in Met Home shows a very light tone of turquoise used the color of the walls. The focus of the room is the bold, red chandelier. You can also see accents of red in accessories. The room is not at all fussy, instead you see very clean lines in a contemporary style.
This relaxing bedroom, featured in Southern Living shows primarily white walls with accents of turquoise. You can also see how pretty the ceiling looks when painted in a lighter shade of the color. Red accents are found sparingly throughout the room so as not to overpower it.
This beautiful sitting room by Tobi Fairley demonstrates how red as the accent color can make this room pop!
I love how the red sofa featured in Livingetc. makes the room come alive. The bold geometric wallpaper would be just that if the sofa were any other color. Instead the room come alive with the pattern and color combination.
I will share a secret with you, " a little bit of red will go along way".

Considering a Renovation? For those of you considering remodeling your home, I want to make you are aware of a new NC state law that went into effect 1/1/10.
Contractors performing renovation, repair and painting jobs in pre-1978 housing and child occupied facilities have a new training requirement with which they must comply with. This is related to lead paint being present in the walls and how it must be dealt with. They are required to become a certified firm and projects will require a certified renovator.
Make sure to check with the contractor doing your work so that they are in compliance. This is an EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) requirement.
