Dear Viewer,
The roses are blooming, the pollen has descended upon us and spring in Charlotte is in its glory. What a beautiful month May is. It is one of my favorite months of the year. I love listening to the birds in the morning as I wake up, warm weather, working in the garden and bringing cut flowers into the house and the feeling of being refreshed. It seems like the world has come back to life. There is so much excitement this month; with college graduations, schools wrapping up, First Holy Communions, Weddings and of course my favorite, Mothers' Day. Life is busy!
I hope that you will enjoy this Mothers' Day day with your family, take it easy and let them pamper you. Relish the moment and take advantage of the fact that we are number one, for at least this one day of the year. Happy Mother's Day and enjoy the beauty of May.

Outdoor Living
This is the time of year when we are finally so excited to be spending time outside. With summer around the corner and people vacationing and entertaining more at home, now is the time to get your outdoor living area ready for those long lazy days of summer. By extending our interiors outdoors we are all looking for comfort, and beauty anything that simply says "Relax".
We all seem to want to hold on to our "things" longer and not have to replace anything unless we have too. Therefore, we must look at outdoor furniture as an investment that will withstand the test of time, furniture that will be durable, timeless, and most of all comfortable. With quality comes durability. Materials such as solid aluminum and feather-weight aluminum with a powder coated finish offer corrosion resistance. Furniture made of resin can vary in shapes and can be sculpted and shaped into anything from seating to shading. Teak, a beautiful alternative to metals has natural qualities that are endearing. Manufactures such as Windham furniture, Brown and Jordan and Tropitone to name a few offer a variety of styles and all are available through Rosa Dest Interior Designs

Maintenance is always a factor to consider before investing, so think about how much time and elbow grease you want to put into preparing and maintaining your alfresco setting each year. I have teak furniture which I absolutely love. The look of the honey colored wood is what I love most. In order to keep it looking fresh, I have to apply Teak cleaner with a stiff bristle brush and scrub it clean, then rinse it with water. Once it is dry I then apply Teak oil, to enhance the natural look and feel of the wood. It is labor intensive to say the least and I get a good work out, to me it is worth it. . Creating an Alfresco Experience
So now that you know about outdoor furniture and what to look for: How do I create a beautiful setting? I like to imagine myself sitting on a porch overlooking the Amalfi coast and of course the setting speaks for itself. You could be sitting on a rock and it is still beautiful. However, our back yard is not quite the Amalfi coast and will take some imagination and work to create our havens. What do we do? ● First of all, create a comfortable setting Keep in mind the size of your outdoor living area. This will help to determine the scale and size of the furniture. This will also help determine how many pieces can comfortably be arranged.

● Consider placing an outdoor rug under your furniture. Made with 100% Olefin, a man-made fiber with outstanding qualities such as fade and water resistance, and flame retardant is ideal. Capel Rugs has a nice selection of outdoor rugs. Ask for Peggy Williams and let her know I referred you, also visit www.capelnc.com. ● Personalize it Create a fresh look that is all you with pillows and cushions. Sunbrela fabrics and trims offer high performance in fade and mildew resistance and have blurred the lines between indoor and outdoor living. They offer the ultimate in beauty, durability and cleanability. Visit www.sunbrella.com to get an idea of the selections available. Sunbrella fabrics from many manufactures are available through Rosa Dest Interior Designs.

● Accessorize Create the mood! Again think of the Amalfi coast. What will enhance your surroundings to make your outdoor living area Amalfi like? A table set for entertaining, potted plants, candles, pottery? Use your imagination or call me.

Highlights from High Point
The High Point Furniture Market celebrated it's 100th anniversary this spring market.
What did we see at market?
Lots of furniture made of bleached wood; anything organic or green, either organic in the material used or made to look organic. A vast array of sunburst mirrors varying in materials, styles and colors. The colors were neutrals, lots a blue mist and tan as well a shades of gray. Coastal and mountain living were definitely vogue, back to the organic theme.
